It’s no secret that Wisconsin is historically well-known for its breweries. Over the years, we’ve been able to add distilleries and wineries to the list of places to indulge in tasty libations, too! So, if you’re visiting Walworth and Jefferson Counties this spooky season, we’ve got a spirits tour for you with all the small town charm and zero scares. Well…maybe some scares. 😉 Book a weekend in Whitewater at Hamilton House B&B or this Mid-century Modern House in the Woods, grab that designated driver, and enjoy!

Spirits Tour Stop #1: 841 Brewhouse – Whitewater, WI

This favorite craft brew spot is beloved by locals and university students alike. With a fresh, modern feel and a menu full of fare with a twist, 841 Brewhouse is the perfect establishment to begin your Spirits Tour early Friday evening. Take a peek at their small but mighty brewery and sample their in-house brewed Warhawk Wheat, Amber, Oatmeal Stout and seasonal options: Golden Pilsner and Winter Porter.

Spirits Tour Stop #2: Dancing Goat Distillery – Cambridge, WI

Dancing Goat Distillery offers tastings of Limousin Rye Whiskey and Death’s Door Gin as well as their exclusive spirits in their industrial-chic tasting room. Housing Wisconsin’s first open-air rickhouse, this Spirits Tour stop will provide a unique experience with award-winning spirits. Shop their gifts after you sip!

Spirits Tour Stop #3: Dog and Shrub Distillery – Lake Mills, WI

This family-owned distillery is sure to provide an intimate experience as you sample their in-house distilled spirits. With permission to bring in food to nibble while you sip and your dog to keep you company, Dog and Shrub Distillery is a one of a kind spot. If visiting on a warmer evening, take your tasting out onto their patio!

Spirits Tour Stop #4: Stable Rock Winery & Distillery – Jefferson, WI

Located on the Rock River in a historic stable, Stable Rock Winery & Distillery offers food, wine, cocktails, and live music. Enjoy their authentic German vibe and take a peek at their wine cellar! Landing on the National Register of Historic Places, you’ll get to create your own memories here that will go down in history.

Spirits Tour Stop #5: Timber Hill Winery – Milton, WI

With over twenty varieties of wines to choose from and an ongoing list of events, Timber Hill Winery gives you a boutique experience. Indulge in a cheese board or a pizza as you get adventurous and try their jalapeno wine, Muscat. While you’re there, celebrate the country’s youngest female winemaker/owner, Amanda, and squeeze in a little hike on the Ice Age Trail before or after sipping!

A beloved establishment in the area, Staller Estate Winery offers a full package deal for patrons. Enjoy wine tastings with charcuterie, tours of their winery and vineyard, and a peek into their gorgeous barrel cellar. Visiting on a sunny day? Take your goodies onto their patio overlooking acres of vineyard! Experience exquisiteness in the midst of rural Wisconsin.

Spirits Tour Stop #7: Duesterbeck’s Brewing Company – Elkhorn, WI

This microbrewery sits on 150 year old farmland, making Duesterbeck’s Brewing Company a premium spot to immerse yourself in the Whitewater area countryside. With 33 beers on tap and soft pretzels bigger than your head, you won’t go hungry or thirsty! Enjoy your brew in the taproom, out on their patio, or under their open air pavilion.

When it comes to Second Salem Brewing Company, not only will you indulge in a delicious local craft brew, you’ll find yourself immersed in Whitewater’s (and the surrounding area’s) rich spiritual folklore. The brew pub’s name is a nod to that history as Whitewater was once referred to as the Second Salem of the US due to rumors of witchcraft and strange hauntings. Settle into the cozy-industrial vibe inside or take your Wytches’ Brew Coffee Porter out onto the patio overlooking Cravath Lakefront Park.

Spirits Tour Stop #9: Apple Barn Orchard & Winery – Sugar Creek, WI

Finish out your weekend with a relaxing afternoon at Apple Barn Orchard & Winery. This is the best place for all things fall: apple and pumpkin picking, kettle corn, hot cider and apple cider donuts, and a pine forest maze. Note that their wine tasting is complimentary so you know exactly what you like before you purchase! Meander the grounds and take in the historic farmhouse and brick smokehouse that’s been in the family for 6 generations.
