Outdoor Enthusiast Itinerary
Famous nation-wide for striking
scenery and varied terrain, the outdoor enthusiast visiting
Whitewater Wisconsin is in for a treat.
While you may not have time to
enjoy all that the Kettle Moraine State Forest
has to offer, it would be a downright shame for
the true nature lover not to spend at least an hour or two
in this unique, glacial carved landscape. Self-guided hiking
and biking trails wind their way through miles of kettles,
lakes, glacial hills, prairie restoration sites and forests.
For a little education along the way, join one of the Guided
Walks that depart twice weekly year round and are
offered at no charge to all interested. Group Biking
offers another opportunity to explore your surroundings as
you get to know other like minded individuals. For those interested
in a shorter trip, several biking and hiking paths meander
across Whitewater and through local parks. Hiking and biking
maps are available at no charge, and bikes can be rented for
those who left their two-wheeled conveyance at home.
The Whitewater area offers some
excellent canoeing as well as outfitters
for all your supplies. After an afternoon of hard paddling,
why not take a snack break at Steffen's Cherry Orchard
for a sweet pick your own treat!
Kill two birds with one stone by
participating in Geocaching. Enjoy the outdoors while you travel through
town locating all of the communities hidded treasures.
Even though Wall Crawlers
is not technically outdoors, it definitely embodies
the spirit with its massive 'rock' faces that boast some of
the most thrilling indoor rock climbing in
the State. Exciting anytime of the year, but keep in mind
particularly during inclement weather.
Spend a day swimming
at the beach on Whitewater Lake or rent a boat
and cruise the lake in style.
During the winter months snowshoes
and cross country skis can be rented right on main
street and enjoyed on area trails. Take a break at an area
restaurant to warm up with a hot chocolate before heading
back out for a quick snow angel and then right back on the
trail.
