It was a pleasure to sit down with Whitewater, WI’s newest Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce and the Whitewater Tourism Council, Jenny Quill, who is incredibly happy to be here.
“Everyone is friendly and down-to-earth. Every person I’ve met is passionate about this town. I think that’s amazing to have an engaged community. It’s a cute little nook that’s country-city. It has a quirky vibe that I dig, and I like that it has a little edge. It’s not overly manicured. I think people need to know about it considering it’s between Milwaukee, Madison, and Beloit/Chicago. It’s a little gem. I love the dining scene, and there are amazing natural assets. I know people love coming up here for that. We need to spread the word…the gospel, so to speak. *laughs* I love the dry cleaner with the taxidermy. I love Quiet Hut Sports and its WWII memorabilia. I love the Book Teller’s vintage bank teller windows wall. There are fun things all over town!”Jenny Quill, Executive Director
Originally from Arizona, Jenny considers herself a “retired gypsy.” As a military spouse, she’s lived in Hawaii, Connecticut, and Illinois, and her family is now making their life in Wisconsin.
“Some people think we’re crazy, but we like it here.” *laughs*Jenny Quill, Executive Director
The decision to move here wasn’t made a whim. Her grandparents lived in Twin Lakes for forty years and her parents spend their summers in Lake Geneva. She’s been visiting Wisconsin since she was a child. It’s a place her family fell in love with. And now her five year old son (who’s into Legos and Star Wars) can fall in love, too.
Jenny is a bookworm, loves cooking and baking (her favorite show is The Great British Bake-Off), is an aspiring picker/junker with a love of antiques and all things old. She appreciates a good flea market and estate sale. She’s also a certified fitness instructor and loves the outdoors.
“I’m about movement as we age.”Jenny Quill, Executive Director
With a background in magazine writing and editing, she’s blogged and done branded content for multiple companies, and was also the Communications Manager at the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Chamber of Commerce in Illinois before moving here. Those passions translate into her overarching goals related to Whitewater’s tourism.
“I want to create more solid communications and advertising and then evaluate what is the most effective. I’d like to collect more market research and data about who’s coming here, beef up our website, look at ways to connect with the University, and find new ways to promote our outdoor opportunities.”Jenny Quill, Executive Director
Jenny’s father saw the ad for the Executive Director position in the paper and flagged it for her. Then a friend in the Geneva Lake West Chamber of Commerce told her she’d love it here.
“My favorite thing about Whitewater so far is a tie between the people, who are warm and welcoming, and the uniqueness of the town. We have great, great outdoor spaces. This position offers a great way to meet people and become entrenched in the community. I love getting out and meeting people, learning the history of the town. I’m learning something new every day! There’s a lot of work to be done, but I’m still learning where everything is. Marie did a great job. I know she’s missed.”Jenny Quill, Executive Director
Jenny believes that Whitewater is a great product that will be easy to promote under a unified voice.
“We need to unify and be bolder with our voice, more creative, and willing to try new things and experiment. Sometimes it will stick, and sometimes it won’t. As long as you’re trying and brave about your approach, good things will happen.”Jenny Quill, Executive Director
We’re incredibly happy to have her aboard helping us show off the city we so love. We also appreciate that she’s as warm, friendly, and passionate as she believes Whitewater’s community is.
“I’m excited to get going. I welcome and look forward to collaboration and partnership. My door is always open.”Jenny Quill, Executive Director
