→Professor Warren Johnson of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater invented the self-adjusting thermostat in 1883, due to inability to control room temperature, leaving the students cold. His invention led to the founding of a fortune 500 company known to many as Johnson Controls.

→Drumlin, Esker and Moraine Hall, on the UW-Whitewater campus, were named after the ice glaciers that came to Whitewater years ago.
